We’re delighted to share that Bennett Oakley has been shortlisted in two categories at the Modern Law Conveyancing Awards 2026:
- Conveyancing Firm of the Year, South of England
- Residential Property Team of the Year
It’s a proud moment for our residential property team and everyone across the firm who helps us deliver the service our clients rely on.
For our clients, a property transaction is rarely just another item on a to-do list. It might be the purchase of a first home, a move to accommodate a growing family, a fresh start or a remortgage to support future plans.
Whatever the circumstances, there is a lot to think about. Alongside the practical arrangements, there are legal documents to understand, questions to resolve and decisions to make.
Our residential property team helps clients navigate these steps with clear advice and support throughout the process. We know that understanding what is happening, and why, can make a significant difference when you’re preparing for a move.
Being shortlisted for Residential Property Team of the Year is a welcome opportunity to recognise the care, effort and expertise our colleagues bring to that work.
The work behind the scenes
There is much more to conveyancing than reaching completion day.
Every transaction involves detailed checks, communication with other parties and careful consideration of the property and the client’s circumstances. Reviewing title documents, examining search results, raising enquiries and liaising with lenders are all part of helping clients understand what they are committing to.
Sometimes, those checks reveal an issue that needs further investigation. A question about access, a lease provision or a missing document can require additional work before a transaction is ready to proceed.
Our role is to explain what those issues mean, advise on the available options and help clients move forward with confidence. It takes attention to detail, patience and teamwork, and we’re pleased to see our colleagues recognised through these two shortlists.
Part of a wider legal team
Residential property is one part of the support we provide at Bennett Oakley.
As a full-service law firm, we advise individuals, families and businesses on a broad range of matters, including family law, wills and estate planning, dispute resolution, corporate and commercial matters, and commercial property.
That breadth matters because legal needs often overlap. A house move may prompt a review of your will. A change in family circumstances may affect property ownership. A business owner may need advice on both their company and its premises.
With offices in Burgess Hill, Brighton, Hassocks and London, we bring together specialist knowledge across our departments to support clients at different stages of their lives and businesses.
These award nominations shine a spotlight on our conveyancing practice while giving the whole firm something to celebrate.
Shared ownership, shared pride
Bennett Oakley has been part of the Sussex community since 1957, and becoming employee-owned in 2024 marked an important new chapter in our history.
Our people have a direct stake in the firm’s future, with a shared commitment to its success and the service we provide. That makes recognition like this particularly meaningful.
The shortlists give us a chance to acknowledge our residential property colleagues, as well as the wider team whose support helps them do their work every day.
They also give us an opportunity to thank our clients. We appreciate the trust you place in us when you ask us to handle a property transaction, and we never take that responsibility lightly.
Looking ahead to the awards
The winners will be announced at The Rum Warehouse in Liverpool on Thursday 19 November 2026.
We’re looking forward to joining fellow finalists and colleagues from across the conveyancing profession for an evening celebrating the work of firms, teams and individuals throughout the sector.
For now, we’re celebrating the achievement of reaching both shortlists and congratulating everyone involved.
